The 2nd annual Hartnell & MacArthur Celebrity Golf Charity Classic is once again sold out. “The corporate community is great in Lloydminster. They really do support these things and look to give back to our local charities in need, it’s fantastic,” says Hartnell MacArthur Committee co-chair Scott Wilkinson. “We had a 97 per cent return from sponsors last year.”

Wilkinson says the player’s on-ice success has made more people pay attention. Scott Hartnell had a successful season in the NHL – playing in the All Star Game and making it to the Eastern Conference semi-finals with the Philadelphia Flyers. “What we’re seeing from that is from a national sponsorship…some different entities contacting us. They want to be involved and a lot of that stems from him and a lot of the publicity he received on a national level.”

The first event raised over $200,000 for charities in Lloydminster and in the area. This year, seven charities will benefit from the event, including the Lloydminster Region Health Foundation, Bea Fischer Centre, the Lloydminster and Area Brain Injury Society, MS Society of Lloydminster and the Lloydminster chapter of United Way. “We wanted access to kids, instant access so the money was going to be utilized right away and at the same time something that was going to make a lasting impression on the community of Lloyd.”

The NHLPA’s Goals and Dreams will be donating 25 brand new sets of full hockey equipment to kids in and around Lloydminster.

This year’s event will include a kick off barbeque at Fountain Tire, autograph session with celebrities and guests and a private meet and greet event and reception, Tuesday June 19. On Wednesday June 20, there will be breakfast, a full day of golf, dinner, silent auction and entertainment.
