A reported craving for a cigarette has landed an escaped psychiatric patient in hot water. Tuesday morning the RCMP were alerted a male patient had escaped from the secure psychiatric facility in Saint Paul. Police began an extensive search and spent the next few hours following up on leads and reported sightings in the town. Later that day a tip finally paid off. Police responded to a 911 call about a man peering through the window of a rural residence. When police arrived they found the man they had been seeking in the garage of the residence and he was returned to the psychiatric facility without incident. Police say the man told them he escaped to satisfy a craving for a cigarette.
