NewsBeef Recall Expands
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has added to the growing list of recalled beef products from XL Food’s processing plant in Brooks, Alberta. The warning now includes all XL beef products sold in Co-op, Metro and Walmart stores across Canada – more than 300 items. The meat may not look or smell spoiled but it could cause life-threatening illness. Four cases of E. coli in Alberta have been linked to contaminated meat. Alberta Health Services is still investigating the source of five other illnesses in the provinces. Last week, the CFIA suspended the plant’s licence. The agency is working with the company on corrective measures, but there is no clear timeline as to when the plant will re-open. Click here for a full list of the recalled products.
