CFIA Expands Beef Recall

Tuesday, September 18, 2012 - 4:21 PM

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded the list of ground beef products in a recall over an E. coli scare for a sixth time.

On Sunday, September 16th, Alberta's XL Foods voluntarily issued a recall of ground beef items that have been shipped across the country. The list of products has since been expanded multiple times, and now reaches to 18 different retailers.

The list of recalled items can be found online here.

Consumers who are unsure if they have affected products are advised to check with the store where they were purchased.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products, however four people in Edmonton and one in Calgary have become ill due to the bacteria.

Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but may cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses if consumed.
