This month, children in Lloydminster and surrounding communities will learn about agricultural and outdoor safety. At the end of May, Progressive Agriculture Safety Day is being presented by ADM Agri-Industries in partnership with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation and with the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association.

Over 1,500 fourth and fifth grade kids in the Lloydminster area will take part in the event. JP Montalvo, manager of ADM Agri-Industries in Lloydminster says kids will be actively involved in the presentation. “It is a hands-on learning experience for the children; it’s not a lecture style format. The kids actually get to often times participate or certainly see a demonstration,” he says. “It helps with the real life learning and for it to make a real impression on the kids going forward.”

According to Montalvo, each presentation is tailored to the community it's in. “Each location’s presentation depends on what’s of a particular concern or area of interest to them.” There are more than 20 different subject areas ranging from grain and animal safety to a healthy lifestyle and hidden hazards on the farm. Montavlo says each presentation will cover about ten to 12 different topics.

Besides Lloydminster, St. Paul, Wainwright, Neilburg, Paradise Hill and Shellbrook will also take part. The Lloydminster event will be on Tuesday May 29.
