Local businesses in the Border City have come together to recognize youth sports. It's all a part of this year's Player of the Game program, which began May 1. This is the second year of the program which recognizes local sports players in youth leagues. “The rugby, soccer and baseball for the youth leagues are being sponsored for a certificate for players who are the star of the game,” says Tyler Kirkpatrick, business development officer for Ironjet Promotions, one of the sponsors of the program. The star of the game is chosen by the coaching body, says Kirkpatrick.

Throughout the summer season, over 1,500 certificates will be handed out, which Kirkpatrick notes is almost double the amount they handed out last year. Kirkpatrick says he is pleased to be involving more youth sports this year. "I think it's important to recognize the spirit of competition in our Border City."

Winners will receive a Player of the Game certificate and a gift certificate for a bucket of balls and beverage from Rolling Green's golf course.

Other sponsors include Courtesy Air, Century 21, Great Canadian Oil Change, Tidy Truck Box Liners, Synergy Credit Union and Ulmer Chevrolet.
