Two Lloydminster Comprehensive High School students are celebrating gold and silver medal victories, after competing at a National Skills competition in Edmonton, Monday and Tuesday. Carson Gustafson, and Evan Latos competed in Architectural Technology and Design, and Mechanical CADD. The teens were part of a group of 8 students from L.C.H.S, who competed last week in the provincial competition, and went home with gold. Don Yusef, a teacher at the school, says he’s been taking students to the Skills Competition for 18 years, and has seen the talent level go nowhere but up since 1994. Yusef says there’s a lot of preparation involved leading up to the event, but students don’t know what exactly to expect until the day they arrive.

Many students take part in the competition, showcasing their abilities in various skilled trades and technologies. The idea is to promote and highlight the industries, in hopes of getting more people to follow the industries as a career path.
